Fanatec CSL Cockpit V1.5 Review: Good Value or Too Limited?

by The French Simracer 30 Jun 2026
Fanatec CSL Cockpit V1.5

Short answer: The Fanatec CSL Cockpit V1.5 is the compact, lower-cost Fanatec chassis. Its aluminium-and-steel trapeze structure is intended for Direct Drive and Load Cell hardware, but the €249.90 TFS frame does not include a seat or display mount. It is most convincing for a largely Fanatec-based setup.

This is a buying analysis based on Fanatec documentation, the verified TFS listing and attributed external reviews. It is not a TFS hands-on test.

CSL Cockpit V1.5 at a glance

Point Verified information
Construction Steel and aluminium trapeze-style frame
Driving position GT by default; inverted brackets can create a lower kart-style position
Wheel compatibility Fanatec CSL, ClubSport and Podium families; some third-party bottom mounting is possible according to Fanatec documentation
Pedals Adjustable plate; intended for Fanatec Load Cell and other supported sets
Seat Not included; CSL Cockpit Seat sold separately
TFS frame price €249.90, checked 30 July 2026

What the V1.5 changes in practice

The V1.5 is not an aluminium-profile cockpit. Its shaped side members create a light, compact structure with fewer open mounting surfaces. The advantage is a lower price and cleaner footprint; the disadvantage is less freedom for unusual accessories or repeated geometry changes.

Direct Drive support needs context

Fanatec markets the chassis for modern Direct Drive wheel bases and Load Cell braking. Independent reviewers generally report a rigid steering support, while some note more movement at the pedal bridge under very hard braking. Those observations belong to the reviewers and are not presented as a TFS test.

Ecosystem fit

The CSL Cockpit naturally suits CSL DD, GT DD Pro, ClubSport DD and related Fanatec pedals. Third-party bases require exact bottom-mount verification. A mixed-brand setup is possible in some cases, but an open aluminium-profile cockpit is less restrictive.

Budget the missing parts

The €249.90 frame excludes the seat, steering hardware, pedals, monitors and additional stands. The separate CSL Cockpit Seat was €129.90 at TFS when checked. Also account for shifter, handbrake and display supports if required.

Strengths

  • Low entry price for a rigid cockpit frame
  • Compact and lightweight visual design
  • Strong fit with the Fanatec ecosystem
  • Adjustable wheel and pedal positioning
  • GT and lower kart-style geometry possible

Trade-offs

  • Seat sold separately
  • Fewer universal mounting surfaces than profile
  • Third-party compatibility needs careful checking
  • External reviewers report pedal-bridge movement under very heavy braking
  • Limited appeal for complex multi-brand builds

Who should choose it?

Choose it for a compact Fanatec setup and a controlled budget. Avoid it when you expect many non-Fanatec accessories, heavy future modification or a cockpit that must serve several very different drivers.

Alternatives

The ClubSport GT Cockpit adds far greater adjustment and a monitor mount. The Sim-Lab GT1 Evo costs more as a frame but offers open profile modularity.

TFS verdict

The CSL Cockpit V1.5 is a focused ecosystem product, not a universal rig pretending to suit every build. Its price and compactness are attractive if the hardware plan is already Fanatec; profile aluminium is safer when the future setup is uncertain.

FAQ

Is a seat included?

No. The CSL Cockpit Seat is a separate product.

Can it use non-Fanatec hardware?

Some bottom-mounted third-party wheel bases can be compatible, but exact drilling must be checked before purchase.

Is it the same product as the ClubSport GT Cockpit?

No. The CSL is the compact value chassis; the ClubSport GT is a larger tubular-steel platform with broader adjustment and integrated monitor mounting.
