The French Simracer verdict in 30 seconds

The Heusinkveld One is one of the most coherent Sim Racing wheels for VR because it prioritises tactile control, low mass and wireless operation instead of a display. At 1,024 g and roughly 270 mm across the hands, it feels lively on a Direct Drive wheel base and places many controls under the thumbs. Its polarising shape, compact diameter, sparse lighting and €594.90 price narrow the audience—but in VR, where appearance and a dashboard matter less, its ergonomic logic is unusually convincing.

A Sim Racing wheel designed from function, not a replica

Heusinkveld did not try to reproduce a GT or Formula wheel. The One uses a fibre-reinforced composite body, integrated grips and a layout built around access to controls. The visual result is divisive, but the engineering objective is clear: minimise rotating mass and keep inputs reachable without moving the hands.

Controls and grips: the reason to look beyond the styling

SerialDriver found the grips comfortable and the thumb controls unusually accessible after a short adaptation period. Five buttons per side, thumb rotaries and seven-way switches cover frequent changes without relying on a large centre panel. The push/pull shifters can trigger a second action by pushing as well as pulling, while an FN layer can multiply available mappings.

The wrist angle deserves attention. The grips project forward, so a wheelbase mounted with a steep upward angle may bend the wrists too far. Lowering the base angle can improve the position. The compact format also suits Formula 4 and prototypes better than cars where a 300–320 mm GT wheel is expected.

The review notes a small ridge where the front and rear grip sections meet. It was noticeable bare-handed but not painful and became less obvious while driving. This is exactly the sort of tactile detail that matters more in VR than polished front-plate materials.

Wireless operation without USB pass through

The included USB dongle handles the wheel connection. Automatic sleep reduces battery use, and the wheel wakes from a control input. The current product data lists a 2,800 mAh battery; SerialDriver reports long practical autonomy rather than a measured runtime.

This avoids a coiled cable and removes the need to match a USB pass-through Quick Release. The trade-off is battery management and reliance on the dongle. The USB-C port is for charging; the video advises against driving with a charging cable attached where steering movement could stress the connector.

50.8 mm hub and the optional 70 mm adapter

The One uses a threaded 50.8 mm mounting pattern. Many Quick Releases can attach directly, but a conventional 70 mm system may need the Heusinkveld Steering Wheel Adapter. The current adapter is 15 mm deep and costs €39.90.

Check the QR bolt direction before ordering. The adapter is useful because it avoids adding a large spacer, but it remains an additional cost and moves the wheel slightly closer to the driver.

Is the Heusinkveld One the best wheel for VR?

It is a strong candidate. In VR, an integrated dashboard is invisible and button backlighting contributes less than tactile location. Low mass, automatic wireless operation and controls that sit under the fingers matter more. The compact wheel also keeps inertia low, helping tyre-load changes and countersteer reach the hands quickly.

It is not automatically the best for every headset user. Drivers who prefer 300 mm GT proportions, require a licensed replica shape or use rally and road cars may find it too compact. Outside VR, the small number of rev and telemetry LEDs—and the absence of illuminated buttons—become more noticeable.

Software note: SerialDriver could not find dual-clutch bite-point configuration during the test. The current TFS product data lists configurable dual clutches, so check the latest SmartControl release and documentation rather than treating the video’s software state as permanent.

Choose another wheel if you want a replica, a large dashboard, extensive lighting or 300–320 mm GT dimensions. The One is not a universal design; it is a specialised ergonomic tool.
